Approximately 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then discovered multiple other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests show the substance was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; officials are presently not aware of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
City officials said they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking political figure commented the vandalism rendered him speechless and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in February 2020.
